[And a couple minutes later, here comes Patrick down to the dining hall, keeping an eye out for B'Elanna.]

[It takes a while for B'Elanna to get comfortable with people. She tends to hold them at a distance, so she's noooot entirely sure she wants to sit down for a meal with him. It's not like on Voyager where you can work all day with a few people, then sit down and talk about work. The easiest excuses are kind of gone. She walks in only a little while after Patrick, though.]

[Patrick's actually also someone who tends to hold people at a distance - if only because where he grew up, it wasn't really a good idea to get too too close to anyone most of the time - so this is unlikely to be anything particularly prying or overly friendly. He's just kind of bored, and maybe a little lonely, and B'Elanna seems pretty cool.]

[Awesome. They will get along vaguely swimingly. B'Elanna shrugs, and heads for the semi awesome buffet. She misses replicators. :|] All right, I guess. You?

[As swimmingly as a PI from Boston and a half Klingon Starfleet officer can. Patrick follows, grabbing a tray and shrugging slightly.] Alright. Kinda impressed the Bahge hasn't decided to completely fall apaht again, but not really complainin' about it either.

I'd be less unnerved if it was actually falling apart. [Not that she's unnerved. :| She grabs a tray and frowns at the selection.] At least that'd be relatively easy to fix.

[Fortunately enough - for Patrick - he's not all that far from the gym, and is down there in a couple minutes, not looking all that impressed by your one armed push ups, Jason. :|]

[That was his sarcastic voice. It means GO AWAY PATRICK I'M BUSY AND NOT AFRAID TO BE GROSS. Also he doesn't stop doing push-ups.]

Oh yeah? [Also a little sarcastically. Which means no, sorry, unfortunately it's my job to be concerned about you and I don't gross out easily, so too bad.]

How bad are the injuries?

Just the arm.

[His ribs are killing him but while he does not, actually, get off of in it, the pain is a relief, in many ways.]

Look, I know what internal injuries feel like. If anything serious were wrong I'd have gone to the infirmary.

[Probably. And now he carefully, awkwardly pushes himself up into a handstand. The fact he doesn't even try doing push-ups like that, just concentrates on staying upright, is possibly telling.]

[That got a slight eyebrow raise from the detective, because it is telling - he might not be Batman, but he still knows how to read people and actions - and he's already concerned.]

C'mon, Jason. [Not kid. Notice him trying to not piss you off?] I'm not an idiot, okay?

[His voice is tight.]

You're concerned. I get that. But I feel pretty good. I don't tough things out just for the hell of it.

[As if to prove that, he flips upright, making sure to land steadily.]

[Patrick's mostly neutral if slightly frustrated and/or worried expression remained unchanged at the flip, even if it's a pretty impressive move for someone with a busted arm and other injuries he's still not sure about.] Never said you did, guy.

Your ribs just bruised, or you break a couple? [It's a bit of a leap, and he doubts his inmate will tell him the truth anyway, but again, he's concerned.]
